Wachau: Recommended Reading

There is a lot of  information on the Wachau available in English – some of it is a little more clinical than ours, but it’s also more comprehensive.

You should definitely read everything published in Wikipedia.

The UNESCO listing has lots of background. It also presents a justification for inscribing the Wachau as a cultural landscape.

We especially recommend you read the material published by the Wachau Tourist Bureau.  That site in particular has detailed descriptions of the major long distance hiking trails in the region.  The most notable, the Wachau World Heritage Trail, is described in English.

If you have ever thought about bicyling on the Danube Bike Path through Austria (or on short sections like the paths through the Wachau), you’ll also find a good English description on that site.
